diets for senior pets

It is important that the food we give our animals reflects their particular life stage needs. Puppies and kittens have a significantly different energy requirement to elderly pets as they are still growing. Senior diets are focused on supporting age-related conditions, preventing further cell aging and supporting vitality.

Ingredients that may be found in senior foods:

  • Added vitamins (particularly E and C) and essential amino acids to support an ageing immune system

  • Essential fatty acids such as omega-3s and 6s to support brain function and healthy skin/coat

  • Antioxidants

  • Highly palatable and digestible protein source

  • Joint supplements

There are different brands and manufacturers of senior pet food, and The Finchley Vet team will be able to advise you on which is the most appropriate for you pet. More often than not, the final decision is made by your pet's senior and refined palate!

Please contact us if you'd like to discuss your pet's particular needs.
